a pair of pet grooming scissors are held up by a smiling woman in front of her face. You can see the scissors are engraved with her name "Katie."

Hello, my name is Katie and I am the lead pet stylist and owner of Peppa’s Mobile Pet Salon, Inc.

After working in the dog grooming industry for over a decade, I decided it was time to create my own company dedicated to the pets we love and the convenience of mobile grooming. I’m totally blessed that my career involves art and building trusting relationships with special dogs and cats. I also support causes I believe in, all while developing relationships with people in the community in which I grew up.

In my early twenties I noticed an open grooming position at a kennel. I majored in art for a short while in college and always loved animals, so I thought, “why not?” I learned how to groom on the job and after 9 months I left stationary salon life to go mobile. I haven’t looked back: it’s less stressful for me, the pets, and the clients! I love having a career that allows me to make friends with so many neat people and pets.

I’m a member of the California Professional Pet Groomers Association (CPPGA) and the International Society for Canine Cosmetologists (ISCC). As soon as I was aware there were sources of education for groomers, I pursued them. I love learning about pet grooming; since 2010 I’ve completed over 165 hours of continuing education across the United States.

Although there still aren’t mandated licensing standards, I’m certified in CPR & First Aid (Pet Tech), and earned an AKC S.A.F.E. Grooming Certification and a Feline Safety Grooming Certificate. In 2022 I became a Fear Free Certified Grooming Professional!

I believe in learning constantly about how to improve as a human and as a groomer. <3

Miss Peppa arrived in my life on New Year’s Day of 2016 as an aged little lady with a hitch in her giddy-up. I had searched the internet for “senior dog adoption” and Muttville (a fabulous rescue organization based in San Francisco) popped up.

Peppa was my faithful companion every day, coming with me to work. We lost her suddenly in 2018, but knew that she had enjoyed a full and joyous existence. She had been happy both lounging and adventuring.  Receiving belly rubs on the couch was more than acceptable, but sniffing after all the unseen scent trails (that could possibly exist) in the park was also a favorite hobby.

I would jokingly refer to her as “my worst client” because even though she was a senior, she had a lot of pep! Spa dates were her least favorite activity; she cemented the concept that grooming is an exercise in cooperation with another being. She would make her thoughts and feelings known and I did my best to honor them while taking care of her core grooming needs.

Peppa changed my life and was a bigger part of my heart than I ever imagined a dog could be; I still miss her all the time. She had fun hair to style and an even more delightful personality. Muttville volunteers thought that she was some sort of terrier. Although I think she came from a miniature poodle and an australian cattle dog, the world will never know the origins of The Peppa.
